KARACHI: The rich tributes were paid to the great visionary and reformer of subcontinent Sir Syed Ahmed Khan at his 199th birth anniversary, observed under the aegis of Aligarh Muslim University Old Boys’ Association (AMUOBA) and Sir Syed University of Engineering & Technology at the campus.
Addressing the ceremony of Sir Syed Day, Jawaid Anwar, President AMUOBA and Chancellor, Sir Syed University of Engineering and Technology (SSUET) said that Sir Syed Ahmed Khan devoted his entire life for emancipation of Muslims of South Asia and Islamic renaissance. He was a great and multidimensional person.
Moral values were the driving force in his concept of education.
Following his ideology, AMUOBA formed Sir Syed University and we gave a new direction towards the journey of its progress. Measures taken by us to boost the image of the university paid us back. Sir Syed University earned the first position in the recent ranking done by the Charter Inspection and Evaluation Committee, Sindh. Chancellor Jawaid Anwar pointed out that Sir Syed University signed three MoU with Malaga University Spain, Karachi University and International Centre for Chemical and Biological Sciences for the exchange of information and research based knowledge.
The discipline of Information Technology has been introduced from this academic year, now students have the choice of seeking admission in total eleven disciplines. Medical insurance has been provided to all employees. Pay scale has been revised due to which all employees have got a fair raise in their salaries along with other facilities.
Around 150 adhoc workers have been regularized. The employees who deserved the promotions have been promoted without delay. Handicapped employees have been awarded with some extra benefits along with salary enhancement and other allowances. Speaking on the occasion, Vice Chancellor SSUET, Prof Dr Syed Jawaid H. Rizvi said Sir Syed Ahmed Khan was the great visionary who prepared ground for the formation of Pakistan.
Vice Chancellor Hamdard University Prof Dr Abdul Hannan said Sir Syed found a new way in the time of crisis to serve Muslim nation and religion with modern strategy. Renowned scholar and journalist Mahmood Sham said Sir Syed’s Aligarh Movement paved way for Pakistan Movement and the time demands another Sir Syed, another Aligarh Muslim University. Prof Dr Arshad Syed Karim said decline of morals deteriorates social structure.
Head of Urdu Department, Karachi University Prof Dr Tanzeemul Firdous said it is not that Sir Syed Ahmed Khan was just a reformer but he had a great influence in the subcontinent as far as education, technological advancement, ethics and morals, culture development were concerned.
