SUKKUR: Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah on Tuesday distributed solid waste vehicles among the administrations of Sukkur, Rohri, Shikarpur, Khairpur and Larkana.
The ceremony was arranged by the North Sindh Urban Services Corporation (NSUSC) at Public School, Sukkur.
Addressing the participants, the CM said that we they had invested a lot of funds in the NSUSC and hoped to see a positive change in the next three to six months. However, the performance of the department would be judged by the residents of the cities they serve, he added.
In the past, he said, the performance of the NSUSC had not been impressive and therefore nobody was happy with it. He said he had recently chaired a meeting and given guidelines in this regard. He added that he hoped that his directions might lead to a difference being made in the department’s services.
The CM further said that the entire administration, including him, werethere to serve the masses and therefore he expected the delivery of services by all the departments to be good.
He said added that large scale recruitment had been made in the NSUSC for this purpose, warning that employees who were not willing to work should quit.
Speaking on the occasion, former MPA and NSUSC Board of Directors Chairman Haji Anwar Mahar welcomed the chief minister and said that the department had spent approximately Rs 610.60 million for the purchase of 501 solid waste vehicles.
Mahar added that funds for the project had been provided by the Asian Development Bank and the provincial government. He praised the cooperation of the chief minister, adding that it was the department’s endeavor to provide the best available civic services to the people.
Sukkur Mayor, ArsalanShaikh noted thatwith the mechanization of solid waste management, the process had become easier and faster.
He said that 501 vehicles have been purchased in the first phase, while more vehicles and equipment would be purchased in the second and third phases.
